EVERYBODY LOVES RAMEN as told by his person, Mieke

By the time we came to the Dumb Friends League Veterinary Hospital at CSU Spur with Ramen, our ginger tabby cat, he was in really bad shape [due to severe dental disease and a painful skin condition]. Ramen had spent the past few years living on the streets, and our neighbors had been lovingly feeding and offering up whatever resources they could to care for him. When we moved in toward the end of 2022, we joined their efforts to get Ramen the veterinary care he so desperately needed. The expense was a significant barrier to accessing [treatment]. We’d done what we could with a few previous veterinarians, but we could not afford the surgery he needed to deal with the debilitating pain he was living with. Then someone told us about the Dumb Friends League.

I cried with relief at that first appointment at the League. It was the first time I felt that Ramen—and we as his family—were being truly seen and cared for. Ramen was finally receiving the kind of care and attention he needed. [The team was] deeply empathic with both Ramen and us. [They] prioritized managing Ramen’s pain while we waited for his surgery and went above and beyond to support us through the challenges that come with administering medication to a cat in such severe [discomfort]. Every single person on the staff was kind and patient with us, from that first appointment to the day we took him home after surgery.

Since then, Ramen has had a whole new lease on life. He looks like a different cat altogether! Now that he is no longer in such excruciating pain, Ramen [can] eat well and groom himself properly. His eyes are more open and shine brightly. [He] is no longer just surviving each day—he is thriving and no doubt has years of adventure ahead of him.

Every dollar you raise for this year’s Furry Scurry helps us provide subsidized community veterinary care so animals like Ramen can heal. Thank you for giving so generously to the Dumb Friends League!
